My name is Coleman Harris, and I’m a member of a service organization called 57 Miles that helps the Perry County community of Alabama. Areas like the Black Belt of Alabama that are stuck in systemic poverty do not necessarily have the tools to teach valuable computer science skills to the students going through grade school. So, as a computer science major, I organized a Computer Science Workshop at Frances Marion High School in Marion, AL.
The workshop will be held from Wednesday, 2/17 to Friday, 2/19, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. My apologies for the late notice, as we have just finalized the details recently. If you would like to join us on one or all of the days, let me know as soon as you can:
We will carpool on the drive down to Marion, which is about an hour drive. That being said, if you wanted to volunteer, you would need to be free from roughly 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Just let me know if you would be willing to volunteer!
The workshops will run every other week on the weeks that we do not have ACM meetings.
Additionally, come to SERC 1059 at 7pm tomorrow to hear about Apple’s new programming language, Swift, from Steven Hayman, a National Consulting Engineer at Apple.
If you plan on attending the workshop and Apple talk we will try to accommodate.
